Pakenham parkrun Event Number 64 - 19th December 2015

Christmas Event.

Thank you to those that dressed up for our Christmas Event. It was fantastic to see so many bring the festive spirit and we hope to get everyone donning at least a Santa hat for the next one!

When I was putting out the course signs, there was such a lovely cool breeze, but oh how that quickly turned. By 7:30am, the warm air had begun and the heat was picking up quite quickly. It was definitely a morning for walking and not much running, but there were a few that gave it a good crack.

It was amazing to see 2 runners complete the course in FULL Santa suits. This was not advisable, but glad they made it back ok to enjoy an icypole under the shady trees.

The offering of a quick cool down by a couple of our parkrun kids were eagerly accepted by many..

however, I think this was more a "payback to the parents" kind of moment :-)

Thank you to our amazing volunteers! So that everyone can have an opportunity to run, we ask that runners volunteer around 3 times a year. Volunteering provides enjoyment, satisfaction and allows people to give back to their community, and without volunteers, parkrun would not be possible. In order for parkrun to run every week we need volunteers. If you would like to assist, you can email us at pakenhamhelpers@parkrun.com, fill in the roster at the shelter or talk to your Run Director at the event.

Please check the future roster at: www.parkrun.com.au/pakenham/futureroster

Due to insurance purposes, we require all our volunteers to also be registered with parkrun, so please ensure that you are registered so we can add you to the roster!

We would like to thank the Cardinia Shire Council and the Pakenham Racing Club for their support in getting us up and running.

Don't forget the lovely offer from Cardinia Life for all our members with a barcode (to be shown at reception) to obtain free access to their swimming pool and showers until 11am every Saturday indefinitely!! Please note: You just have to arrive by 11am, but can stay ALL DAY :-)

NEWS / ANNOUNCEMENTS:

KIDS DAY: A couple of times a year, we let our parkrun kids take over the volunteer roles and show us how awesome they are. Our next 'Kids Day' is scheduled for 26th December (Boxing Day). All positions have now been filled! We are really looking forward to this one as these kids know what they are doing and do a magnificent job.

NEW YEAR'S DAY RUN: We have sought, and been given, approval from the Council to hold an extra event on Friday 1st January 2016. All positions have now been filled. Put those New Year Resolutions into action immediately and start the new year off with RD Anthony!!
