Pakenham parkrun Event Number 82 - 16th April 2016
It has now been 82 weeks since we started and we are continually growing. We are growing in numbers, strength and support. This week saw our shelter volunteer roles taken on by our parkrun kids. Apparently they got together a few weeks ago and worked out who would do which role and popped themselves into the roster. As usual, they did a fantastic job:
Abbie was on the stopwatch and didn't miss a beat, which meant you all got a time! She advised that it wasn't hard at all. All our roles are pretty easy, so please just give it a go as you may surprise yourself and really enjoy it!
We then had Logan on the finish tokens, making sure you all had one to ensure your times counted.
Izzy was then scanning your barcodes and tokens and even though the line grew a bit at times, she didn't take too long to sort you all out.
Rachel was our photographer extraordinaire, who snapped all your winning smiles. She was always under control and made sure she captured all of your "good sides"
Here they are just hanging around, Abbie; Rachel; Logan and Izzy:
We did have some visitors from Lillydale lake parkrun and China, so thanks for coming.
The Tailrunner volunteer each week has the very important role of getting all parkrunners back to the shelter safely. For this reason, they remain behind the last runner/walker. Our event does start at 8am, but we would encourage you to arrive by 7:45am at the latest to:
a) ensure you can get a good parking spot;
b) be in time to hear the run briefing - we know that a lot of it is repeated each week, but you never know when there could be a new, important bit of information and;
c) to have time to warm up, chat and get your GPS's ready (most important of all!!).
As many of you know, we also have an "Under 11 year old policy". Basically, all children under the age of 11 must be within arms reach of an accompanied adult or guardian for the duration of the course. We take this policy very seriously as they are our kids and we are here to protect them, so please ensure your children know, and understand, this policy as we would hate to have to delete a persons time for not adhering to this policy.
If you have any questions in regards to this, or any other policy, please speak to the Run Director on the day.
As we mentioned last week, there are quite a number of other parkruns who have weekly/monthly runner profiles on their page. Some people want to share their stories of how they became a parkrunner and what they get out of it etc. This also has the potential to bring us closer as a community and to know the runners/walkers around us a bit better. We would like to attach a runner profile to our weekly Run Report (we did not receive one to attach for this week), so if you are interested in sharing, please complete the following questions, attach a photo of yourself at parkrun and email it to: pakenhamoffice@parkrun.com

One thing I love about parkrun is:
My most memorable parkrun moment was:
Due to us having a full roster for next week, and also thank to the Pakenham Road Runners, we will be having Pacers next week. So if you have been trying for a while to break a certain time, here is your chance!
Thank you to our amazing volunteers! So that everyone can have an opportunity to run, we ask that runners volunteer around 3 times a year. Volunteering provides enjoyment, satisfaction and allows people to give back to their community, and without volunteers, parkrun would not be possible. In order for parkrun to run every week we need volunteers. If you would like to assist, you can email us at pakenhamhelpers@parkrun.com, fill in the roster at the shelter or talk to your Run Director at the event.
Please check the future roster at: www.parkrun.com.au/pakenham/futureroster
Due to insurance purposes, we require all our volunteers to also be registered with parkrun, so please ensure that you are registered so we can add you to the roster!
We would like to thank the Cardinia Shire Council and the Pakenham Racing Club for their support in getting us up and running.
Don't forget the lovely offer from Cardinia Life for all our members with a barcode (to be shown at reception) to obtain free access to their swimming pool and showers until 11am every Saturday indefinitely!! Please note: You just have to arrive by 11am, but can stay ALL DAY
PLEASE NOTE: All our photos of the event are uploaded to our facebook page - Pakenham parkrun
